At just 22 years old, Tyler has already accomplished a lot.
Where did it all start?
Tyler grew up in a small Illinois town 50 miles northwest of Chicago. From an early age, he was greatly influenced by music, and had a habit of remembering lyrics to songs. From an early age he was a superfan of Bruce Springsteen. In an effort to sort of be like Bruce, he started taking guitar lessons at age 6, and continued them off and on until high school. He first figured out he wanted to be an artist around the age of 13. How? He had no clue. Being in a small, rural town, there wasn’t a lot of relevant advice around. But he knew he wanted to entertain people and write works that would hopefully outlive him. Eventually he started showing up at various Blues open jams, and met many older and well-seasoned players who provided a great space for him to grow his abilities. A love of blues and roots music followed. Along the journey, he picked up the ability to play piano and harmonica, and eventually took vocal lessons as a teenager.
With all the cards in place, confidence in the future, and a high school diploma coming in 2020, he was ready to stick his foot in any door even if it meant getting it slammed more often than not. Then COVID-19 happened. For a good year, he honed his skills in writing and in instruments by sitting at home during the lockdowns. Here he wrote what he thought were his first really good songs. Eventually, the idea of recording some of them came into his mind, and he found a place in the city that seemed like the one. There he recorded some of his first few songs in a day, just him and a guitar. Time went on, more songs were written, and more ambition followed. He taught himself how to use ProTools, at least well enough to serve his needs at the time. The song productions started getting bigger with more instruments and more complexity.
During this time he was taking classes at Community college as a way to get out of the house and hopefully learn something. After finding Belmont University in Nashville, he decided to transfer there a year into his degree. Nashville was a place he wanted to move to right about the time COVID happened, but now was his chance now that things were becoming sort of normal. He didn’t know anything about Nashville, and knew nobody going in. Still, he packed the car and drove down there to move in and start an official hunt for a bachelor’s degree. Eventually it was decided that a BBA in Music Business was a great, well-rounded option that would expose him to most parts of the industry. He took classes from legendary figures who taught him invaluable information that you can’t read about in a book. One of the highlights was studying abroad for a month in London to fulfill a class for his production emphasis. There he worked with other students to produce a song from scratch (recording and mixing).
All the while, he has been consistently writing and putting out new songs. Most recently, he announced a new album due in the late spring called The American Dream is Dead, to which some of the singles have already dropped and will continue to drop. A tour in the summer will likely follow.
What can he do for you? He has become adept at working in the Protools DAW after taking classes in school and using it for his own projects and clients. Recording? He’s got all the knowledge on how to mic any instrument. Mixing? He’s got it. Mastering? Covered. He also has a magnificent ear for hearing arrangements and producing songs. Tyler can play a multitude of instruments, most confidently the guitar, but he is also a gifted keyboard player and singer. Lastly, his songs can be either be an earworm in your brain or it will give you something to think about, which is what art is about.
